Track 04: Nobody Told Me

ACTION: The Record Store - Morning/Afternoon - Open

[All things considered, Yosuke is enjoying his new job at the record store, familiarizing himself with the music and keeping the records spinning. If you're in the market for some music, come on in and shop!]

ACTION: John Doe Park - Evening - Open

[Yosuke is sitting on a park bench, headphones on as he looks at the ground, despondant. He'd been wondering why he hadn't heard from Chie lately and wanted to make sure she was going to his (late) Birthday Party, so he'd gone after work in search of her.

He hadn't been prepared to see his friend all dressed up and flirting with the drone boys. No training, no kung fu, no arguing - done through and through.

He's not sure how to cope with that. He doesn't even know how long she's been this way. So he's simply sitting there, drowning his sorrows in the music and trying to cope with everything.]

[ Next to Yosuke, someone had taken a seat on the bench. She figured he looked a little sulky, but ohh, what was that on his head?

So, Yosuke! Have a poke-poke-poke on a shoulder. ]

[He looks up, face going from melancholy to somewhat bewildered. The last thing he expected was a cute girl poking him on the shoulder. At least he's too out of it to pretend he thinks he's charming. He slips off his headphones for her at least.]

Hey... did you need something? Am I in your spot? I can move if you want.

No, that's not it. [ Though that does make her smile. She points to his headphones. ] You looked spaced out. Was it because of those?

[He manages a weak smile - the girl seems nice enough and there's no reason for him to be a jerk]

No, these just help. It's been a rough day, so I thought I'd sit around and listen to some music.

You can listen to music in them? [ Wow! That sounds magical to this girl, whose face lights up with her words. ] How does that work?

[Well! This isn't what he was expecting to happen in the slightest, but it's an admittedly welcome distraction from his own head so he slips his headphones off, holding them out to her]

Well, you connect the cord to a portable music player, and then you can listen to music on the go, instead of with a stereo or a record player.

[ Who doesn't love a technology newbie to distract from the woes of friends disappearing!? Millie takes them, having a look them over. She can see there's a wire, which she holds between her fingers when he goes on about stereos and record players. ]

Is the thingy connected to this?

[Oh yeah, she probably understood maybe three of those words. Smiling genuinely now, he reaches into his pocket and pulls out his MP3 player]

Yeah, this is the thingy. It's called an MP3 player. I put my music on here, and I can listen with the headphones.

[ Millie can hear music coming from the headphones - she thinks, anyway. But wow, little thingymajig! ] Wooow. [ And if Yosuke doesn't mind, she'll touch the player with a finger, just poking it. ]

Why do you call it an MP3? That can really make music happen?

[He doesn't mind - not like she can hurt it much by poking it]

It's... a computer term - a type of music file. [It's either say that or try and explain all of computer science ever (most of which he doesn't know himself) to the girl.]

You use a computer to put the files on that, and then that takes the files and makes them into music. Don't ask me how all the programming and stuff works though, I have no idea.

Computers! My friend Ruri uses that word a lot. [ And just because of that, it can make sense to her - that it's completely weird and confusing. ]

What music plays on the files? [ She's paying attention again now to his headphones, putting her head down to them. ] Can you have whatever music you want on it??

[Is there anyone in this town that Ruri doesn't know?!]

Yeah, anything you want. I like pretty much anything that's catchy with a good beat.

[He just goes ahead and slips them on her head - it's faster than trying to explain.]

[ Ruri. She knows everyone! But this music, would it maybe be some John Lennon? Though Millie wouldn't know it either way, it's still intriguing and magical to hear! Her expressions change as she listens to it - from a curious look, to surprise and then to a smile that is quickly accompanied by a giggle. ]

It's music! [ Pointing out the obvious, yes. She looks at Yosuke. ] It's really making sound come out! -- just like the phones!

[While he does have some Lennon and other Beatle related music because this mun is convinced that even international music lovers are required to know The Beatles he was listening to a bit more modern music when she rolled up. Still, seeing her so bright makes him smile]

Yeah! The wonders of technology, right? They come in all sorts of different shapes and colors and styles, but I like mine the best.

[ And this mun hadn't even heard John Lennon's Nobody Told Me until this post! Whatever it is, it's sure to sound different to anything Millie's heard. So strange, so funky! Still, she bops her head a little as she tries listening between the music and Yosuke.

She almost didn't want to stop listening just in case for what would happen next, but she takes them off, holding them in her hands. ]

It sounds really funny, I've never heard music like them. [ And here, she'll now hold them back out for him to take. ] But it must be really good since you look more happier now, you do.

[He smiles back at her and just shrugs, slipping his headphones back around his neck]

I just like music, I guess. It's fun, sharing the things you like with other people. I'm sure you've got something like that, right?

Oh, I do! I like sharing my little sweetie with everyone, my cute cute Bonaparte! [ Saying that, however, her expression turns pouty. ]

But they told me the postman has him, so I can't show him. But if you saw him, you'd see how cute he is.

Bonaparte? [He sounds like a pet - it's a safe guess]

Is... that your dog? Or cat? Something like that?

He's a groundhog! Have you seen one? They're like this - [ She makes a round shape in her hands, about the size of a watermelon. ] - or sometimes like this - [ And not she's just stretching out her arms for a second until she puts them back down. ] - and with lots of eyes and cute pointy teeth.

[If that animal exists, it may just be weirder than Teddie.

Maybe.]

I, uh... can't say I've ever seen anything like that. But if you get him back you'll have to show me, okay?

[ Bonaparte is very cute and normal!!! But hearing that he wants to meet him, Millie clasps her hands together. ]

Okay, I will!! Then you'll be able to see how cute he is yourself. And maybe even you and my little Bonnie can be good friends!

Hey, if he's half as cute as you say he is, I'm sure I'll like him.

Some people get funny with him, but I don't get it. He's a good boy.

[ Pauuse, but then she continues- ] I was going to ask the postman if I can have him! Or- me and a friend wanted to write letters to him. Have you ever met the postman? Do you think he'll respond to the letters?

[The postman? Oh man, this is bad news. Time for him to get serious]

I've never met the guy, but be careful about him. I've heard that to get something back at the post office, you have to give up something. Usually something important.

[ And time for Millie to get pouty. ]

But Millie doesn't have anything important to give when postman has Boneparte. Bonaparte is my bestest friend. That's why I want to get him back.
