Track 04: Nobody Told Me

ACTION: The Record Store - Morning/Afternoon - Open

[All things considered, Yosuke is enjoying his new job at the record store, familiarizing himself with the music and keeping the records spinning. If you're in the market for some music, come on in and shop!]

ACTION: John Doe Park - Evening - Open

[Yosuke is sitting on a park bench, headphones on as he looks at the ground, despondant. He'd been wondering why he hadn't heard from Chie lately and wanted to make sure she was going to his (late) Birthday Party, so he'd gone after work in search of her.

He hadn't been prepared to see his friend all dressed up and flirting with the drone boys. No training, no kung fu, no arguing - done through and through.

He's not sure how to cope with that. He doesn't even know how long she's been this way. So he's simply sitting there, drowning his sorrows in the music and trying to cope with everything.]

[What's that? He was depressed about something? It's only a kiss on the cheek but it leaves him unreasonably warm and fuzzy. It's a nice contrast to the sad evening he'd been having. He's smiling at her and blushing furiously]

A deal's a deal. I'll make sure to drop everything off on the way home.

[This sounds like it has a very confusing story behind it and, not eager to get into it now, Yosuke drops it.

[He laughs - partially at the situation, partially at himself. Of course he's taken it too far again. Besides, there's nothing to get at - he knows he doesn't have a shot with her, even if he tried]

[Yep, awkward as hell. But for some reason he still finds himself answering]

I... wasn't exactly Mr. Popular back home? Half the town resented me for something stupid, and most of the girls were interested in- ... in someone else.

My Dad's a manager for a big chain store - Junes. The only reason I wound up in Inaba was because they transferred him there to manage a new Junes.

Well, once it opened, a bunch of local stores closed, and guess what got the blame? And since it's my dad who manages it, a lot of the people resent me right along with it.

I just tried to act like it didn't bother me. I laughed it off and just... kept going. It was all I really could do. Besides, eventually I made friends that weren't jerks. I've got them at least.

And that was when you met with Souji-san and the others right? And try to figure out the problem of the midnight channel?

[Admittedly, she doesn't know too many details about it but ,then again, they don't know that much about them...]

Yeah, exactly. Trying to save people's lives was a great distraction from all the stupid things in the town.

But...[She had to be careful how to word this] did it mean anything to you?

[He doesn't want to answer - let alone answer honestly. He's quiet for a few moments before he sighs]

... not at first. The biggest reason I wanted to go back into the TV world was that it was something to do. But then I faced my shadow. [He's never actually told anyone about his shadoow. ANYONE. The only person who knows about it is Souji, so why does he feel so comfortable telling her?]

It basically called me out on being a bored jerk who just wanted to act like a hero. So after that, I tried to do stuff for the right reasons.

... and eventually, I got there.
