Track 07: Dirty Little Secret

ACTION: THE RECORD STORE - ALL DAY - OPEN - TRUTHFIELD: LEVEL THREE

[It didn't take long for Yosuke to notice something horribly wrong earlier in the week. Rin was acting weird, the entire town was making unbelievable phone calls, and though people weren't dying as far as he knew, the town was messing with everyone again. Uneasy at both the prospect of hearing everyone else's business and revealing his own, Yosuke took a different path and buried himself in his work. The record store was usually slow, and thankfully whatever was affecting the town had yet to hit him full force.

In a lot of ways it was like his first month in Inaba. Next to no one to talk to for one reason or another, and no choice but to bury himself in his music and work. Still, as lonely as his strategy was, it seemed to be working. He'd avoided nearly everyone and everything successfully, and he felt vaguely proud of himself. With any luck, he might be home free soon.

He certainly felt different as he went into work on the weekend. Probably just a side effect of the isolation, right? What could possibly go wrong now? He'd be fine. He was sure of it.]

"Nah, that's the big stuff. I'm like... The guy who keeps people from going back in time and assassinating Alexander the Great's great grandmother. The little stuff causes bigger ripples than the big stuff."

"Not a good job though, no recognition by the chicks at all."

Hey, it could be worse. At least with a job like that I'm sure you never get bored. It beats my job, anyway. I'm just my dad's lackey - assistant manager in everything but name. All the responsibilities, crappy pay, and everyone tries to suck up to me for favors when they're not openly resenting me.

"At least you get sucked up to. Me... I got recruited because I was about the biggest failure out there as a super hero, so who'd believe I was doing something worth while. Ya know. Now, here I am, got a lot of really cool successes, and people still have to think I'm a total looser."

I feel for you man, I do. But trust me, being sucked up to isn't anything good. It's just plastic bitches trying to flutter their eyelids for a day off when they don't think you're worth a thousandth of what they paid for their stupid ass designer purse.

At least you're doing some real good out there.

"You know what's REALLY funny. I was one of those plastic people for a while. Till I screwed up. You know, most of them are totally messed up. Don't understand there isn't a world that isn't them."

"Realizing that was about the worst thing that happened to my social calendar. You're at least finding it out early enough to not end up stuck there."

Yeah... I know. I get it, and I feel sorry for them.

It's just hard not to be angry and bitter sometimes. I'm usually good, you know? But every now and then you need to vent.

Hell, maybe blurting out all my secrets isn't so terrible. At least it'll be some relief, in a weird way. By the way, I have a crush on one of my best friends. That's kind of weird.

Sounds a lot like me, actually. I've got a handful of friends I know I can count on in a pinch back home.

"Watched my best pal go through it over the years. Was kind of frustrating to watch him get his heart ripped out every other Thursday."

"She jerked him around for years... He thought they were more than friends then... He got shot in the face by a lunatic that was trying to take over the world..... Its really kind of depressing."

[He's oddly quiet for a few moments. Getting jerked around, waiting on a girl he can't ever have - that's no way to spend a life.

Do you really need a secret identity here? I bet it's hard to be a time cop in a town you can't even get out of normally, never mind trying to go through time.

"There are several people from my home world here. People of the crazy stabbity type.... From Gotham."

[He groans]

"Which, you probably don't know, but... Saying your from Gotham means you're from the crappiest city fulla loonies on my world's America."

[Wait, so if this guy's some kind of hero, does that mean there are villains here?!]

So what's Gotham like? Is it really that unsafe - children murdering their parents, that sort of thing?

"Its not that bad but... Most of the bad guys there, they've got powers that are frankly lame as hell. But they are extra crazy to make up for it. I don't generally operate there because of that. Well, that and I don't live there."

But you could if you wanted to? I mean, I don't know much about heroes. There's no 'territories' or stupid crap like that, right? If you save someone's life in another city no one gets pissy?

"Mostly. Every city has a main guy and most of them are pretty cool about that. The guy in charge of Gotham though... He's kind of hard to work with. Thinks he knows everything."
