Track 05: Small Town

ACTION: EVERYWHERE - ALL DAY - EVERYONE

[As Yosuke's settled himself into Mayfield, he finds one question gnawing at the back of his head.

Is this place really that bad?

Sure, there's the dronings and the weird things that happen, but day to day everybody's able to go about their lives - maybe even find things to do that make them happy. They bring bits and pieces from home and make connections with other people. They can even meet people they never would have at home. Does the good the people make in this town outweigh the bad the town tries to bring them down with?

He's curious. Also, it's a great excuse to take a day off and wander around the town, so that's exactly what he does - he sets out and walks, with no destination in mind]

"I don't know. I kind of wanted to finish getting my doctorate from MIT. Something about having it before I was 17 sounded nice."

"And here it was more about proving what I can do to myself."

Oh yeah! Back home all the teenage doctor girls had five guys. On each arm.

"And here all I wanted was one, and a girl for the other arm."

I didn't know you were into that, Ruri.

So now I have to compete with the girls too? Man, all this competition...

"Not all of them."

[She shrugs]

"Besides, I have to compete with the girls, it wouldn't be fair otherwise."

Yeah, but you don't have to compete with the boys. I have it twice as hard.

"Or you're doing twice as well. Its all in how you look at it. And who knows, I may have to compete with boys. Lots of the boys here are into that sort of thing and I don't like to assume."

When it comes to me, there's no boys involved. Trust me.

[She nods and smiles slightly]

[He leans his chair back and grins]

I really need to stop under-estimating you, Ruri.

"Oh, that's okay, it gives me a chance to see the faces you make when you panic. They're kind of cute."

Panic? Me? You must be mistaken - I never panic.

So what are you good at? I mean, aside from cosplay and being super smart and your voice talents.

"Nothing really. I'm just an ordinary girl."

[She nods]

Right, and I'm the Prince of America.

"Really? We should go tell that to Mr. America, I'm sure he'd be very surprised about that."

Oh no, I wouldn't want America to make a big deal over it. Just try and keep it quiet.
